ETT Annual Awards 2022–2023

In recognition of the contributions made by members, the ETT Member Service Committee has created several awards. A list of all ETT awards and a brief description are listed below. The recipient(s) of the following awards will be recognized and receive their awards at the ETT Annual Dinner. Awards will be presented for the following:

  • Indigenous Award—up to one member
  • Honorary Life Award—up to two members
  • New Member Award—up to one member
  • Union Steward Award—up to five members

 

Submissions must be received by Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. Extended deadline. Submissions received after this date will not be processed for this year’s award.

Indigenous Award

In recognition of the contributions made by members, the ETT Awards Committee has created the Indigenous Award. The ETT Member Service Committee’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of Indigenous issues, anti-racism, social justice, social responsibility, peace principles, and equity in all levels of our communities. This award may be given to one member who integrates Indigenous ideas and values into their teaching philosophy. ETT members are encouraged to submit nominees from all divisions, including primary, junior, and intermediate. A sum of $100.00 shall be given to each recipient of this award. A teacher may be the recipient of this award once during their career. The recipients of the Indigenous Award shall be recognized at the Annual Dinner.

The Indigenous Award may be granted to a current ETT member who:

  1. shows social responsibility by taking initiative and bringing about positive awareness of Indigenous issues;
  2. regularly embeds Indigenous values, ideas, and teachings in lessons and activities;
  3. shows leadership that positively affects the lives of students and school culture; and
  4. has a passionate attitude towards equity and is an excellent role model.

Honorary Life Award

This award may be given to two ETT members who will have retired by June 30, 2023. The recipient(s) of the Honorary Life Award shall have a $200.00 donation made in their name to a school or accredited charitable organization of the recipient(s) choice. The recipient(s) of the Honorary Life Award shall be recognized at the Annual Dinner.

The ETT Honorary Life Award may be granted to an individual who:

  1. will be retiring, or has retired (to a maximum of one year after retirement) from the education profession;
  2. has provided outstanding leadership and service to the Local during their career in activities that may include, but are not limited to the following: Executive Officer, Regional Organizer, Union Steward, Committee Member, ETT Representative (Board Committee), Delegate (ETFO AM), ETFO Provincial Standing Committee;
  3. has demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics; and
  4. is a selfless advocate of the objects and goals of ETT..

New Member Award

This award may be given to one active ETT member who is in their first five years of teaching as of June 30, 2023. A cash award of $100.00 shall be given to each recipient of this award. A teacher may be the recipient of this award once during their career. The recipients of the New Member Award shall be recognized at the Annual Dinner.

The New Member Award may be granted to a current member of ETT who:

  1. is a member in good standing of the Elementary Teachers of Toronto;
  2. has shown commitment and participation at the Local level within the first five years of ETT membership;
  3. has demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics;
  4. shows ability and willingness to work cooperatively with fellow professionals; and
  5. has attended ETT and/or ETFO events (general meetings, professional development, conferences, delegate for annual meeting, etc.).

Union Steward Award

This award may be given to five active ETT members who have provided outstanding leadership at the Local level in the role of Steward during the 2022–2023 year. A cash award of $100.00 shall be given to each recipient of this award. A teacher may be the recipient of this award once during their career. The recipients of the Union Steward Award shall be recognized at the Annual Dinner.

The Union Steward Award may be granted to a current member of ETT who:

  1. is a member in good standing of Elementary Teachers of Toronto;
  2. has provided outstanding leadership and service (at the Local level) as Union Steward during the 2022–2023 school year;
  3. has demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics;
  4. is a selfless advocate of the objects and goals of ETT; and
  5. has actively encouraged members to get involved in ETT
