ETT Choir – Spring 2026 Expression of Interest

🎶 Join the ETT Choir – Spring 2026 🎶 – Songs from the Frontlines: a musical for public education

The Elementary Teachers of Toronto (ETT) is inviting members to express interest in joining the Spring 2026 ETT Choir. This year, the choir will be developing a 20–30 minute musical using original songs written by educators — a piece that can live on stage, in the street, and at rallies and community events. This is not an audition. This is a collective, creative, and political project.

Why this choir, why now?

Teaching is harder than it’s ever been. Classrooms are underfunded, workloads keep growing, and too many educators feel isolated and unheard. Through music and storytelling, the ETT Choir creates space to:

  • tell the truth about what’s happening in schools
  • connect with parents and the broader community
  • build solidarity and collective power beyond traditional union spaces.

This spring, we are deepening the work by shaping our songs into a portable musical that can be shared widely — in Toronto and beyond.

Who should consider joining?

You might be a great fit if you:

  • enjoy singing (any voice, any level),
  • believe music can help move people toward action,
  • want to be part of a collaborative, non-hierarchical creative process,
  • are curious about helping shape a musical that blends song, narration, and visuals.

Previous choir or musical experience is welcome, but not required. We especially encourage interest from members who:

  • want to help develop the story and flow of the musical,
  • are interested in movement, staging, or visual elements (props, signs, images),
  • want to help carry this work back into schools and community spaces.

What participation looks like

Participants can expect:

  • 1 online orientation / welcome meeting (January 2026)
  • 2 in-person rehearsals (after school or weekend — dates finalized with participants)
  • 2 full-day release workshops (March–April 2026)
  • Performances in April 2026, including a joint concert with Common Thread Community Chorus on April 11 and Social Justice Conference April 25

This form is an expression of interest, not a final commitment. Scheduling will be shaped by the availability of those who step forward.
