Topic: Preparing for the New Mandated Black Canadian History Learning Expectations
This workshop will highlight broad topics that are expected to be inclusive of the new mandated Black Canadian history learning expectations in grades 7 and 8 based on the existing curriculum framework. Dr. Henry-Dixon will provide an overview of some core knowledge, skills, strategies, and resources that will support the effective implementation of the new expectations and underline the necessary essential conditions for success.
Bio:
Dr. Natasha Henry-Dixon is an assistant professor of African Canadian History at York University. She has been an educator for 25 years, teaching kindergarten through to university. Natasha is an award-winning author and an award-winning curriculum developer, focusing on African Canadian experiences. Her multifaceted work reflects her unwavering commitment to researching, preserving, and sharing the histories of Black Canadians.
