Workplace Violence in School Boards

We are highlighting the provincial document WORKPLACE VIOLENCE IN SCHOOL BOARDS, A GUIDE TO THE LAW. Many violent incidents continue to be reported by members during our return to in-person teaching. This resource provides valuable information for members about health and safety requirements in relation to reporting and addressing violence in schools.

In particular, we’d like to highlight the section entitled “Workplace Violence Risk Assessment” (page 11). Please note: “The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires all school boards to assess the risks of workplace violence and to conduct a reassessment of the risks of workplace violence as often as necessary to protect workers from workplace violence. School boards must ensure an assessment/reassessment of the risks of workplace violence is conducted for each of their workplaces (e.g. school, classroom, or other work location).

Feel free to contact your Health and Safety Inspector/Coordinator with any queries.
