Guest Speaker:
Professor Wendell Nii Laryea Adjetey of McGill University will talk on the theme: African heritage & lateral violence
Panel discussion topic: 3 Steps forward, 2 Steps back: Lateral Violence, one enemy to our progress
Progress among people of African heritage seems to be stagnant and/or stale in the Canadian Society. Like the ‘crabs in a barrel’ adage, there seems to be a persistence of ‘PHD’ and ‘PTD’ syndrome – Pull Him Down; Pull Her Down; and/or Pull Them Down – in our communities. In some cases, “trumpism ideology” [it must be ME in charge or no other person of colour] is very prevalent among us. Like-minded people are rallied to distort and destroy another Black person in charge at a particular time period. It’s about time we held the bull by the horn, had courageous conversations, and discussed the disease of Lateral Violence and Micro-aggression among people of African heritage and allies, for a way forward.
Panelists are leaders who will share their experiences and their stories. Join us on February 26 to brainstorm suggestions and recommendations for a better future in our communities.
