The Elementary Teachers of Toronto (ETT) Anti-Racism Committee is proud to co-host a community gathering marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Across the world — and here in our own city — we are witnessing a rise in racism, hate movements, and attempts to divide working people from one another. As educators, we see the impact of these forces in our classrooms, our schools, and in the lives of our students and their families.
This event will bring together labour leaders, community organizers, educators, and city leaders to discuss how we confront hate and build solidarity. The evening will include a panel discussion, cultural performance, breakout conversations, and community sign-making, giving participants a chance not only to listen, but to connect, reflect,
and organize.
For educators, this conversation is especially important. Our classrooms are often the first place where the impacts of racism, division, and misinformation show up. Teachers play a vital role in helping students build empathy, critical thinking, and a commitment to justice. ETT members are encouraged to attend and bring colleagues, friends, and family.
Join us as we explore how educators, unions, and communities can work together to counter hate and build the solidarity our communities need.
