Bio: Jeewan Chanicka is an educator, system leader, speaker, and writer whose work explores the intersection of education, belonging, leadership, and collective transformation. Over the past three decades, he has served across the public education system as a support worker, teacher, principal, superintendent, and Director of Education, leading large-scale change initiatives grounded in equity, human dignity, and community voice.
A TED-Ed Innovative Educator, recipient of the 2024 Global Innovation Management Institute Public Sector Innovation Award, and global advisor, jeewan has worked with educators, organizations, and systems internationally, supporting conversations about the future of learning, Inclusive Design, and what it means to create conditions where all children can thrive.
Rooted in Caribbean heritage and shaped by a braided lineage of Brown, Black, Indigenous, and White ancestry, his work is deeply informed by multiple spiritual traditions and by lived experiences that include poverty, homelessness, neurodivergence and navigating the world as a queer, two-spirit person. These experiences continue to shape his understanding of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of relationship and remembrance.
He is the author of the forthcoming book The Pedagogy of Remembering: Reclaiming the Heart of Education.
