A Fair Vote? Rights, Responsibilities, and Decision-Making in a Democracy is an exciting new resource for Grade 5 Social Studies teachers, which was developed by the Elementary Teachers of Toronto and Fair Vote Canada.
This resource supports Strand B of the Social Studies curriculum on the Role of Government and Responsible Citizenship. The curriculum resource invites students to consider alternatives to our First-Past-the-Post voting system. Consisting of three lessons with accompanying slideshows, it concludes with students holding a mock Citizens’ Assembly to determine what changes could be made to our voting system.
A free virtual training session will be held on December 3rd, 4-5 pm, for interested teachers across Ontario. The training will provide teachers with an overview of the resource and a community of learners to collaborate with its implementation.
Please help us to get the word out to Grade 5 teachers – please share this session information!
