Electing a Steward and Registering Online

All schools and worksites must elect their steward for the 2026–2027 school year.

Do not delay. Your contract expires August 31st, and we start a new round of collective bargaining next year. To effectively inform and organize our members, it is imperative that every school and worksite has a steward.

All stewards, including current and past stewards, must complete online registration.

If multiple people are interested in being a steward for your school or worksite, a quick election must be held. If a more formal procedure is required, the current steward should contact their Executive Officer for support.

What are the different roles I can register for?

Stewards are the official union representative in every school. They have legal protections associated with the role. They are elected or acclaimed by their coworkers. They are the foundation of ETT’s advocacy and organizing work. Click here for more information.
Co-Stewards share the role of steward with another member.
Alternates: can step into the Steward’s role during an absence and support’s the Steward in their organizing and advocacy work.
School Action Team: comprised of members committed to assisting the Steward in building a fully organized school. Usually comprised of 1 member per 10 staff in a school, SATs ensure that every coworker can be reached and engaged quickly and efficiently—rather than a steward having to talk to 30 people individually. Centrally Assigned Stewards

Centrally Assigned Stewards must follow the same nomination, election (if required), and registration process by Learning Centre and Assignment.

For example: Guidance Counselors in LC5 would nominate and elect a Steward, as opposed to all Centrally Assigned members in LC5 or all Guidance Counselors separately nominating and electing Stewards.
