Register for Honouring International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan 26

The Equity & Social Justice Committee Invites ETT members to participate in honouring International Holocaust Remembrance Day. International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on 27 January that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945. 27 January was chosen to commemorate the date that Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.

ETT members and their guests have been invited to the IHRD program running on January 26. The program came about as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration and Death Camp. Given this, there will be a unique and meaningful tour lead by the Museum’s Chief Curator at 1PM and another at 3PM. The tour will highlight the collection, curatorial approach, and reflect on the history and significance of Auschwitz. ETT members and their guests are also free to branch off from the group and explore on your own as well as it will be held inside the Museum.

In addition, at 2:30PM there will be an opportunity for attendees to engage in a thought-provoking talk with author Kathy Kacer, who will share insights on adapting Max Eisen’s best-selling memoir By Chance Alone (2016) for young readers, ensuring that the lessons of the Holocaust resonate with future generations. The event also offers time for reflection through thoughtful prompts, encouraging deep engagement with the history and its lessons.

20 tickets have been made available for ETT members and their plus-one on a first-come, first-served basis (40 tickets total with room for a waitlist of more availability opens up) to attend a lunch followed by a tour of the Toronto Holocaust Museum on Sunday, January 26th, 2025, at 1 pm in honour of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th. There will be an opportunity for members to connect afterwards for reflection at the Lipa Green Centre. Refreshments and beverages will be provided.
