In response to proposed redevelopments of public lands (including with TDSB properties) moving forward without any representation or consultation of educators, ETT launched the Education Starts at Home campaign. Connecting issues in education, housing, and support for students, this campaign is pushing for housing development, new schools, and city planning that ensures we’re building the strongest and healthiest communities for all Torontonians.
Earlier this month, ETT published an open letter to all Toronto Mayoral candidates, asking for three commitments to educators, students, and our communities:
- Formal educator representation on the CreateTO Board, which oversees the redevelopment of public lands;
- The creation of a universal and city-wide lunch program in all Toronto public schools; and
- ETT and educator consultation on all CreateTO projects that involve TDSB property, including the current 705 Progress Avenue redevelopment.
We asked because you deserve to know which candidates support a vision for Toronto that values public education, good schools, and supported students as the building blocks of strong and vibrant communities.
Here are the responses we received; keep them in mind when you head to the polls on Monday October 26! Polls are open from 10am to 8pm. Have your voice heard!
