One member for every five schools, in each of ETT’s 22 regions. About 90 members city-wide.
RMTs work with their Regional Organizer and ETT’s Organizer to ensure every school in their ward is engaged and has the most up-to-date information. RMTs build the network we’ll need for a strong Strike Vote in November, and the fight ahead against Ford’s Conservatives.
What you’d do: Call five stewards a month (~30 min), log the conversations (~5 min), stay reachable for time-sensitive asks. Later, move materials in and out of your schools. About 30–45 minutes a month, one-year term.
What you wouldn’t do: Troubleshoot issues in specific schools, or answer grievance or leave questions; those go to your EO, or the ETT office.
Seats. Anyone can register, but it does not necessarily guarantee a spot. We will cap active seats by region size (e.g. # of schools) and individuals will be selected to try and have even geographic coverage across the region. Everyone else who registers will be an alternate, will still be invited to any training meetings, and will be called upon if a seat opens up.
A Strike Vote is coming, and we’re now at the bargaining table in a generational fight for public education. Whether we’re ready depends every school being reachable and engaged between now and then.
