Ontario Provincial Election Date Set For June 12, 2014

On Friday, May 2, 2014, Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath announced that her party would not be supporting the budget tabled by the governing minority Liberals, prompting Premier Kathleen Wynne to request that the Lieutenant-Governor dissolve the legislature, calling an election. As a result, Ontarians will be heading to the polls on June 12, 2014.

As advocates on behalf of public education and the students in our care, we know that this election is of the utmost importance to ETT members. This is why we, as a union, have made this election our top priority.

Going forward, ETT will begin immediately taking action, including:

  • establishing a dedicated elections portal on the ETT website;
  • providing members with regular email election updates;
  • widely disseminating ETFO’s Building Better Schools platform; and
  • working with other locals, community groups, and parents to advance education issues.

Get engaged in the election process!

We recognize that the upcoming months are a busy time for teachers, but with threats to publicly funded education looming, the importance of this provincial election cannot be overstated.

Further election information and updates will be provided as they become available.
