Today ETFO served Notice to Bargain on the Premier, the Minister of Education, and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association. Serving OPSBA and the government with Notice to Bargain begins the collective bargaining process for the education sector as set out in Bill 122, and advises them of ETFO’s intention to renegotiate collective agreements on behalf of our members.

Local collective agreements expire on August 31, 2014, and so ETFO has also made each public school board in Ontario aware of our desire to bargain locally on behalf of our members.

In July, you’ll be receiving more detailed information in the mail about the 2014 round of collective bargaining – so please keep an eye out for an envelope sent to your home marked “BARGAINING INFORMATION FROM ETFO”.

While this may be the beginning of the summer holidays for students, ETFO members continue to be active professionally throughout July and August. As of today, almost 4,000 of you have registered for the high quality professional learning offered through ETFO’s Summer Academy program and ETFO’s Additional Qualification courses. In addition, thousands of you are taking professional development during the summer through universities.

ETFO members’ year-round commitment to improving their professional practice for the benefit of Ontario’s students should be recognized and commended. But I hope all of you take the opportunity this summer to relax and recharge for the upcoming school year, and the 2014 round of collective bargaining.

Thank you for all you have done for your students and public education this year, and have a great summer.
