Province-Wide Strike Action on February 21: 200,000 ETFO, OSSTF, OECTA, and AEFO Members

On Friday, February 21, 2020, ETFO, OSSTF, OECTA, and AEFO members will take part in a province-wide full withdrawal of services. This is the first time since 1997 that the four affiliates of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) will mobilize their members to take simultaneous action.
This unified action is meant to send a strong signal to the Ford government that teachers and education workers will not stand quietly by while it attempts to use the central bargaining process to rubber-stamp its agenda of destructive cuts and privatization.
No additional full withdrawal of services strike action is scheduled to take place during the week of February 17, 2020.

Central Bargaining Update

Early last week, ETFO advised the mediator that has been working with the Union and the government that the Federation is fully prepared to resume negotiations as soon as the government commits to collaborative discussions around key issues of concern to our members.
The government and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) have shown no interest in returning to the bargaining table.

OFL Rally at PC Party Policy Convention

The 2020 Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) Party Policy Convention is taking place in Niagara Falls on February 21 and 22, 2020. The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is organizing a rally on Saturday, February 22 in Niagara Falls to put pressure on PC Convention delegates to change direction and stop the cuts to public education and public services.
This will be a massive demonstration of the labour movement’s power and solidarity. Join our labour and social justice allies as we take action to protest the Ford government’s cuts to our schools, our health care, our transit, and other essential services.
Buses will be departing from the ETT Office on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 a.m.
Let’s send a message to Doug Ford. Please register online if you plan on attending, as we need to know the number of ETT members attending by bus.
